Nonconvex Sparse Logistic Regression with Weakly Convex Regularization

چکیده
In this work we propose to fit a sparse logistic regression model by a weakly convex regularized nonconvex optimization problem. The idea is based on the finding that a weakly convex function as an approximation of the `0 pseudo norm is able to better induce sparsity than the commonly used `1 norm. For a class of weakly convex sparsity inducing functions, we prove the nonconvexity of the corresponding sparse logistic regression problem, and study its local optimality conditions and the choice of the regularization parameter to exclude trivial solutions. Despite the nonconvexity, a method based on proximal gradient descent is used to solve the general weakly convex sparse logistic regression, and its convergence behavior is studied theoretically. Then the general framework is applied to a specific weakly convex function, and a necessary and sufficient local optimality condition is provided. The solution method is instantiated in this case as an iterative firm-shrinkage algorithm, and its effectiveness is demonstrated in numerical experiments by both randomly generated and real datasets.

Sparse Reduced Rank Regression With Nonconvex Regularization
In this paper, the estimation problem for sparse reduced rank regression (SRRR) model is considered. The SRRR model is widely used for dimension reduction and variable selection with applications in signal processing, econometrics, etc. The problem is formulated to minimize the least squares loss with a sparsity-inducing penalty considering an orthogonality constraint. Convex sparsity-inducing ...
متن کاملSparse-View CT Reconstruction Based on Nonconvex L1 − L2 Regularizations
The reconstruction from sparse-view projections is one of important problems in computed tomography (CT) limited by the availability or feasibility of obtaining of a large number of projections. Traditionally, convex regularizers have been exploited to improve the reconstruction quality in sparse-view CT, and the convex constraint in those problems leads to an easy optimization process. However...
متن کاملStochastic DCA for the Large-sum of Non-convex Functions Problem and its Application to Group Variable Selection in Classification
In this paper, we present a stochastic version of DCA (Difference of Convex functions Algorithm) to solve a class of optimization problems whose objective function is a large sum of nonconvex functions and a regularization term. We consider the `2,0 regularization to deal with the group variables selection. By exploiting the special structure of the problem, we propose an efficient DC decomposi...

Quadratic-support functions [Aravkin, Burke, and Pillonetto; J. Mach. Learn. Res. 14(1), 2013] constitute a parametric family of convex functions that includes a range of useful regularization terms found in applications of convex optimization. We show how an interior method can be used to efficiently compute the proximal operator of a quadratic-support function under different metrics. When th...
متن کاملLinearized Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers for Constrained Nonconvex Regularized Optimization
In this paper, we consider a wide class of constrained nonconvex regularized minimization problems, where the constraints are linearly constraints. It was reported in the literature that nonconvex regularization usually yields a solution with more desirable sparse structural properties beyond convex ones. However, it is not easy to obtain the proximal mapping associated with nonconvex regulariz...
